UPDATES ON PAST NEWS

Works on the Greenways

The Solar System Greenway improvements including tree maintenance and re-surfacing are now complete making the route even more accessible than ever

Throughout the spring and summer York Greenways will be arranging workdays and '2-Hour Tasks' with our partners York Cares and Good Gym
York Rally 2023

York Greenways are on the organising committee and have responsibility for 'family' rides around York's Greenways. Dates have been confirmed for 23rd-25th June
On Friday evening we lead a group of early campers along the Solar System Greenway to the Happy Haddock in Deighton, then back to the Marcia in Bishopthorpe.
Saturday morning will see us back out on the SSG stopping the ride at key points to illustrate the history of the path, the ecology and the planets. The more energetic can continue on to Riccall for tea and buns at the Methodist Hall.
Sunday's ride will take us over the "col de Kimberley" to see the magnificent views back to the Minster, south to Drax and north to the White Horse at Kilburn. We return along the Foss Island Greenway past the Minster stopping only at the Two Hoots ice cream boat.

Naburn Trust Hut

Audrey plans to re-open the self-service Trust Hut as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Hot and cold drinks, fruit, and fruit cakes available - pay as you feel. It's even better when it is staffed but our previous volunteers have had to stop so if there are any would-be baristas out there, let us know.

New funding

A generous grant from Dringhouses and Woodthorpe councillors has enabled us to purchase a cordless electric strimmer and hedge trimmer. The paths are getting overgrown and we are looking to Good Gym and York Cares to join us again over the next few months.

We ahve also got additional funding from Naburn to look after the path alongside Naburn Lane.

20/Jun/22 - Gateway Sculptures

The Railway to Greenway project officially ended in September withthe creation of Gateway sculptures at either end of the SSG. These were designed and manufactured by the same team that created the Solar System. Sustrans installed one at the Riccall end while volunteers from Netwok Rail helped us at the Park and Ride end.
