York Rally 2025 - Now Yorks 'Festival of Cycling'

York Greenways are on the organising committee and have responsibility for 'family' rides around York's Greenways. Dates have been confirmed for 20th-22rd June at the Knavesmire. Camping available. See the Festival website. For 2025 we are making the event even more inclusive with a wider range of activities.

Naburn Trust Hut

We would love to re-open Audrey's self-service Trust Hut. It's even better when it is staffed but our previous volunteers have had to stop so if there are any  would-be baristas out there, let us know.

Urban Green Corridors
We have partnered up with St Nicks Environmental Resource Centre "Urban Green Corridors" project to enhance the biodiversity on the section between the Sun and Askham Bar Park & Ride. We meet every 4th Sunday on site - details on our Facebook Events page (see link above)

New funding

A generous grant from Dringhouses and Woodthorpe councillors enabled us to purchase a cordless  electric strimmer and hedge trimmer. The paths are getting overgrown and we are looking to Good Gym and York Cares to join us again over the next few months. The council has improved the surface of the path as far as the White Rose FC changing rooms and will soon extend this to the sun.

Our generous funding from Naburn to look after the path alongside Naburn Lane clear the bins near Vicarage Lane has been renewed into 2025.

We will be asking Bishopthorpe Parish Council to renew their funding to clear the bins near Mars and care for the Community Orchard.

 Gateway Sculptures

The Railway to Greenway project officially ended in September 2023 withthe creation of Gateway sculptures at either end of the SSG. These were designed and manufactured by the same team that created the Solar System. Sustrans  installed one at the Riccall end while volunteers from Netwok Rail helped us at the Park and Ride end.

We continue to develop and extend the website through new links with the Friends of the National Railway Museum . S ee our podcast on the Railway to Greenway website for details
