Sadly we are no longer able to operate the Trust Hut at the old Naburn Station.I t is still a lovely picnic spot and Sustrans may be open to a coffee van operating there. So if you know of anyone out there who might be interested, let us know.

Urban Green Corridors/ Askham Bar Gateway
We have over the years made a number of attempts to make the access from the Askham Bar Park and Rid more welcoming. We have now partnered up with St Nicks Environmental Resource Centre "Urban Green Corridors" project to enhance the biodiversity on the section between the Sun and Askham Bar Park & Ride. We meet every 4th Sunday on site - details on our Facebook Events page (see link above)

Recently we have commissioned artwork in the underpass - see our Facebook page.

New funding

In the past we have  had to apply to individual wards to cover our core costs such as insurance, tools and web-hosting. This year we have successfully applied to the City-Wide  Fund which will mean only one application per year but will enable us to support work in the North of the City

Our generous funding from Naburn to look after the path alongside Naburn Lane clear the bins near Vicarage Lane has been renewed into 2026.

 Railway to Greenway

The Railway to Greenway project officially ended in September 2023 with the creation of Gateway sculptures at either end of the SSG. These were designed and manufactured by the same team that created the Solar System. Sustrans  installed one at the Riccall end while volunteers from Netwok Rail helped us at the Park and Ride end. Since then we have added a large sign overlooking the main highway, and created wildflower beds. We continue to empty the litter bins under the bridge

We continue to develop and extend the website through new links with the Friends of the National Railway Museum . New highlights include a history of the railways in York and in depth descriptions of the East Coast Main Line Diversion and the Selby Coalfield.
